Level 2 National Certificate for Door Supervisors (Scotland)

If you want to work as a door steward in Scotland, after November 2007, you need to have a licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which was set up by the government to regulate the private security industry, including door supervision.  Without a licence, you can't legally work on the door of licensed premises. 
To get an SIA licence you will need to satisfy three requirements:

  • pass an identity check
  • pass a criminal records check, and
  • possess a recognised door supervisor qualification.

This course is a 4 day course approved by the SIA and accredited through BIIAB and City & Guilds. It provides the qualification required to apply for a License to Practise through the Security Industry Authority. It incorporates 2 modules Unit 1 Roles & Responsibilities of the Door Supervisor and Unit 2 Level 2 Conflict Management.

BIIAB Level 2 Conflict Management Course

14-hour course accredited by the BIIAB and City & Guilds. This provides a recognised level 2 qualification in Conflict Management and is suitable for employees from a range of environments who may have to deal with conflict at work including Health Service, Social Services, Emergency Services, retail, security etc.


First Aid, Search and Control for Door Supervisors

This course is a one day course featuring a 4 hour Emergency First Aid course focused on incidents commonly occurring whilst “working the doors” (this session is taught by a qualified paramedic) then a 4 hour session in practical physical intervention for door stewards based on accredited manoeuvres used by police, military and prison personnel. This session is taught by an ex military Personal Safety Instructor.

This is a physical hands on course which has become very popular amongst door supervisors in Scotland.

Qualifications gained will be Emergency First Aid Certificate and First Contact Defence Training Certificate for Personal Safety & Intervention techniques (Introduction) 


Personal Safety and Physical Intervention Techniques Course

This course will be of value to clients who operate mainly in the security industry; however a courses can be moulded to the needs of clients in other sectors who may be working in situations of violence or conflict.
The techniques taught are the same that have been tried and tested in the most hostile of places and are used by her majesty’s forces and police forces today.
On completing this syllabus you will be more focused, aware, and confident in yourself.

(Unit 1) Laws and Legislation Regarding Use of Force (UK)
(Unit 2) Personal Safety and Physical Intervention Techniques.

Course content includes:
Distraction techniques
Nerve stuns
8 point blocks
Escorting/guiding
Containment positions
Take downs
Escape techniques
Third party intervention & take down techniques
Two and three man rapid intervention techniques (snatch)
Training is realistic and can be physically demanding but is enjoyable, rewarding and self satisfying.

Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH)

This one day course provides the required qualification for individuals to apply for a Personal Licence to meet the requirements for the introduction of the Licensing Scotland Act 2005.This Act will become fully functional September 2009

 

Scottish Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing

Applies to all staff involved in the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises.
The qualification provides essential knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of alcohol retailers authorised by a licensee to sell alcohol. It will enable those who complete the qualification to act within the law and to retail alcohol responsibly on their licensed premises

Scottish Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing (Off sales)

Applies to all staff involved in the sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises.
The qualification provides essential knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of alcohol retailers authorised by a licensee to sell alcohol. It will enable those who complete the qualification to act within the law and to retail alcohol responsibly on their licensed premises

Scottish Licensee’s Certificate (Off-sales)

The Scottish Licensee's Certificate (off-sale) is a nationally recognised qualification designed to meet training criteria required of anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol on off-licensed premises.  It is supported by pub operators and retail companies as well as the Scottish brewers. The Scottish Licensee's Certificate (Off-Sale) is designed for those wishing to enter the off-licensed retail sector in Scotland.

Scottish Licensee Certificate (Drugs Awareness)

The Scottish Licensee's Certificate in Drugs Awareness is a nationally recognised qualification designed to raise awareness of the established illegal drugs scene, it gives a basic knowledge and understanding of the law relating to the misuse and supply of controlled drugs on licensed premises.  It provides operational guidelines to help licensees or managers deal effectively with any drug related problems on their premises.  It also provides guidance for the development of policies and strategies to prevent such problems arising.
The Scottish Licensee's Certificate in Drugs Awareness is designed for all managers and licensees running licensed premises in Scotland. It covers:

  • The law and trends relating to illegal drugs
  • Drugs legislation
  • Drugs problems particular to licensed premises
  • Operational guidelines for devising a drugs strategy
  • Keeping drugs out of licensed premise

The qualification has been designed to be delivered in one day (although this may vary between centres) and includes a short, closed book multiple-choice examination.  A comprehensive handbook, presented in an easy-to-follow format, supports the qualification and covers all the information required to complete the examination.
